LUCÍA C. PINO. You Who Have Beautiful Manners

This bilingual Spanish-English publication, co-published by Museo CA2M and Mousse Publishing, explores different aspects of C. Pino’s work. It includes texts by Beatriz Ortega Botas, Edwin Nasr and Imani Mason Jordan, as well as a conversation between curator Aimar Arriola Olabarria and the artist.

The exhibition brought together several strands of research. One centred on sculptures made from reclaimed metal elements—fences, grilles, bars and other materials—that evoke ideas of visibility, concealment and framing. In these works, attention is focused as much on the form and appearance of the sculptural objects as on the relationships they establish with one another, with us and with the surrounding space.

A second strand focused on textiles, particularly denim—which had already featured in C. Pino’s recent exhibitions—as a sculptural material. Through denim, C. Pino explores questions of manual labour, class and the circular economy.

Photography also played an important role, incorporating images of denim, window blinds and bodies in intimate settings, at times drawing on queer archives.
