SEE YOU AT THE EXHIBITIONS!

SERIES OF GALLERY ENCOUNTERS WITH ARTISTS
visitas artistas

Credit: Sue Ponce.

Through gallery encounters with different artists, this programme suggests an encounter that plays with uncertainty, surprise and thrills. Three times a month, the CA2M Museum invites local artists, curators or researchers to share their interests with the public to connect their practices, careers or inquiries with the exhibitions underway.

They thus become the guides on exhibition tours during which they share their creative processes by engaging them in dialogue with the exhibitions they are seeing to generate shared conversations. This programme aims to be a dialogue experience between the guest artists and the visitors, an encounter that aims to take the pulse of creation through words and listening, associating Madrid’s creators with the artistic practices of the exhibitions underway in an attempt to turn the museum into an epicentre of contemporary artistic reflection.

This series seeks to expand not only the museum’s boundaries but also the way in which an exhibition takes shape in the imaginary of the guided tour, attempting to build a community around art and make the CA2M Museum meeting point for artists, audiences and creation. The goal is to experience, share and forge a new relationship with contemporary creation to generate an intimate space where the line between the creator and spectator is blurred, paving the way for a fluid dialogue that amplifies the voices of local and global art.

Prior registration required by phoning 91 276 02 21, emailing ca2m@madrid.org or going to the museum’s reception. Maximum capacity 20 people.

Sofia Montenegro works between sound, image, text and performing arts. She studied Fine Arts and Cultural Studies in Utrecht and Madrid and has an MA in Art Praxis from the Dutch Art Institute. The work of Patricia Esquivias addresses issues that are ignored in our history and society in a highly personal way. Imitating the work of an ethnographer, the artist conducts her research by interviewing people from different fields, reviewing archives and walking. The narratives she creates from this process, with irony but no aim for precision, invite spectators to reread history. Esquivias studied art in London and San Francisco and has done stays and residencies in Skowhegan, USA; Wiels, Brussels; ‘Schloss Solitude’, Germany; ‘Residencia en la Tierra’, Colombia; ‘Rif Post-Residencie’, Morocco; Transcultural Academy SKD, Germany; and ‘Programa de Residencias Matadero’, Spain. She has received several creation grants to enable her to develop her projects, such as Hilar largo with production grants from La Caixa and the Community of Madrid; the video Cardón Cardinal with the BBVA Multiverse grant; the book Cardón cardinal with the Vegap creation grant; the Cardón Cardinal tapestry with a Residencias Matadero grant; the video installation Walking Still with a grant from the Fundación Botín; and Folklore III with Generación 2009. Her works have been exhibited at the Tabacalera Promoción del Arte in Madrid, the Real Academia de España in Rome and the Nirox Foundation in Johannesburg, among other venues.
