REWRITINGS
Spanish video art, accounts and history
ACADEMIC YEAR 2009 – 2010

This activity forms part of our audiovisual literacy programme and collaboration agreement with the distribution company Hamaca to develop educational projects related to video art. It consists of the screening of videos that present our history from different viewpoints – personal accounts, testimonies and stories that construct a different history of Spain based on documents, personal experience and folklore. The programme therefore offers a departure from the commonly accepted hegemonic stories and takes a new look at the imaginary of our most recent past.

The project is broken down into two parts. In the first part, teachers will be given an activity pack to work with their pupils on a range of topics in the classroom before and after the screening.  The second part consists of a viewing session at the CA2M where an educator will lead a discussion on aspects relating to history, the collective imaginary and video art. The activity focuses on memory and the construction of accounts based on artists’ personal visions of the past and the way in which these help us to (re)compose our knowledge.
