LOOKING AT War, IMAGES, ART AND VISUaL STUDIES.

Following the tradition of Free Universities, CA2M offers a wide variety of courses for Young and adult public where it clearly and directly addressed some fundamental approaches to understand and interpret current art.
The free and abundance circulation of images is evident within our society of knowledge. Images from war, “images from the event” are maybe the ones we pay more attention, but they are not exempt of problems. From the moment those images are taken, to the moment of their reception, these images, often errant, are, at the same time, inheritance of a Western secular imaginary and continuators in the training that we already share, many times “at the surface”

The programme  is organized around three thematic blocks: Las imágenes toman posición –Images take their position; El tráfico del dolor –The traffic of pain-;  and  Imagen, imaginario y memoria –Image, imaginary and memory. Professional of different fields will take part: photojournalists Álvaro Ybarra, Mikel Ayestarán, David Beriain and Sergio Caro; Fine Art Teachers Aurora Fernández Polanco and Yayo aznar; Head of the Education Dept. from MNCARS; and the artists Fernando Baños and Lara García Leyne.

A tradition from Free University

Looking at War belong to the series of learnining activities on art and contemporary thinking within the framework of the tradition from the free universities specially aimed at young and adult public. These courses address in a clear and direct way some of the fundamental approaches to understand and read current art.
These activities are structured in two parts: the first one consists of exposuring a subject by a guest speaker and,  the second part, a debate is opened for attendees to take the word: listening and dialogue as a transformative action, art as a space for meeting and the development of critical attitudes against the reality imposed.
