LAS LINDES: SHARED READING WORKSHOP
FAILURE AS A PRACTICE OF COLLECTIVE RESISTANCE
FRIDAY 24 MAY 18:30

We return to our open reading sessions, on this occasion to share the text “Low Theory”, an introduction to the book The Queer Art of Failure, by J. Halberstam.

In this text, Halberstam invites us to discover in low theory other places in which to jointly learn forms of knowledge which can destabilise the neo-liberal rationales with which we produce our cultural and educational practices today. She invites us to regard failure as a creative possibility of resistance to those neo-liberal frameworks and their hyper-productivity. Also to look at feminisms, decolonial knowledge and queer lives as a way of establishing ourselves in narratives of failure that break with and question the rationales of logics of success.

After our reading, we will try to reflect together about the possibilities failure may offer us to also question the languages of emancipation and critical pedagogies which have been emptied by overuse. We will try to place ourselves in these low theories and their power for subversion. We’ll share our own failures—both in education and in life—in an attempt to narrate ourselves from logics that do not view failure as a step towards learning to be successful. How to rethink education from this conscious practice of failure?

Reading the text beforehand is not required.
