REGION OF MADRID’S SPECIAL COMMITTEE FOR THE ACQUISITION OF ARTWORKS
The Regional Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Region of Madrid has announced a plan to help alleviate the consequences of COVID-19 crisis in the Visual Arts sector. To this end, it has set up a Special Committee for the Acquisition of Artworks from contemporary art galleries in the Region of Madrid and from artists from Madrid not represented by galleries from Madrid, with an allocation of 545,000 euros. All artworks acquired through this process will become part of the Region of Madrid’s contemporary art collection, on deposit at CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo.
Applications to be considered for these acquisitions will be evaluated by the Region of Madrid’s Special Committee for the Acquisition of Artworks. As stipulated in its legal regulations, the committee shall be chaired by Gonzalo Cabrera Martín, Director-General of Cultural Promotion, Regional Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Region of Madrid, and shall comprise the following members: Antonio J. Sánchez Luengo, Deputy Director-General of Fine Arts; Tania Pardo, Visual Arts Adviser and Deputy Director of CA2M; Manuel Segade, Director of CA2M; Estrella de Diego, critic, curator and professor of Art History at UCM; and María de Corral, freelance curator.
The goal of this Special Committee for the Acquisition of Artworks is to acquire artworks from among the applications sent by art galleries located in the Region of Madrid or by artists resident in the Region of Madrid who are not represented by art galleries in Madrid.
